Deutsche Card Services GmbH this week signed an agreement to become the acquirer and service provider supporting Media-Saturn Holdings GmbH’s online commerce. The Germany-based electronics retailer says the deal will enable it to accept transactions online more securely.
The agreement covers Visa and MasterCard acceptance and payments made through bank-transfer methods Giropay, Eps and iDeal, the Deutsche Bank subsidiary notes in a news release. Consumers who prefer not to use a credit card may conduct bank funds transfers instead using a PIN and transaction number to initiate the purchase.
Deutsche Card Services will support Media-Saturn’s online shops with special graphical payment interfaces. Through these interfaces, consumers enter their data directly through Deutsche Card Services instead of through the merchant, a spokesperson for the acquirer tells PaymentsSource. The service also exempts the retailer from having to secure compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, the spokesperson adds.
The acquirer also will provide the retailer with technical processing, bank-transfer payments support, fraud prevention and product-return services, the spokesperson says.
“Our system gives merchants a better chance of getting the money from charge-backs,” the spokesperson notes.
Merchants often have difficulty proving whether a charge-back is fraudulent. Deutsche Card Services “offers a completely online system that e-mails the merchant to let them know there is a new incident,” the spokesperson says.
The e-mail asks the merchant to log on to an online portal and access the transaction details so it can access the transaction details and knows which customer is seeking the charge-back, the spokesperson notes. Merchants also have the option to directly upload sales slips and other documentation to help prove whether the charge-back is legitimate.
Moreover, if consumers pay through a bank transfer, they do not lose money if they need to return something they bought or do not receive an item, the spokesperson says. For example, if a consumer purchases five items and only receives four because the fifth is not in stock or is unavailable, Deutsche Card Services will refund the consumer’s money. The consumer then will be re-charged at a later date when the item is available, the spokesperson says.
