Users of China Mobile in Shanghai can now use their mobile phones to pay for their Metro transportation fares, according to a statement from the country’s largest telecom operator. The service will allow users to make payments at the turnstiles using mobile phones equipped to support contactless technology.
“Users can by replace their SIM cards with those that feature radio frequency identification technology at China Mobile outlets in Shanghai,” the statement notes. Moreover, China Mobile users also will be able to pay with their mobile phones at 1,000 stores in Shanghai, including Starbucks and McDonald’s.
“However, transaction limits will be capped at 1,000 yuan (US$146 or 102 Euros) a day,” the statement adds.
