BBVA Bancomer has begun deploying MX ATM kiosks, a spokesperson for VeriFone Holdings Inc., the United States-based vendor supplying the equipment, tells CardLine Global. The Mexico-based bank initially is installing the machines in one of the "largest drug store chains in Mexico," VeriFone says. The spokesperson would not identify the chain, and immediate comment from the bank was unavailable. The bank anticipates the deployment "will represent 10% of its ATM-network footprint" in 2010, the vendor says in a statement. The bank has a network of about 5,900 ATMs, VeriFone says. The bank will spend more than US$10 million (6.8 million euros) on the deployments. The ATM kiosks accept deposits and allow cash withdrawals. Customers also can use the machines to add value to their mobile-phone accounts, pay bills, and redeem and reload prepaid cards. The drug-store managers also can deposit store checks and cash using the machines. Earlier this year, Prosa, a Mexico-based payment processor, said it would install the VeriFone kiosks at Mexican retailers (CardLine Global, 25 Aug.).
