Morpho Sanfran Inc. will supply a Hungarian issuer with the country’s first dual-interface credit card based on EMV computer chip technology, the identification documents technology provider announced Nov. 17.
France-based Morpho will produce the credit card–with both contact and MasterCard PayPass contactless capabilities–for Hungarian customers of the Magyar Cetelem Bank Zrt., the company stated in a press release.
The premium credit card, called EMV Pro CL, will use the contactless function Morpho originally produced for Magyar Cetelem Bank in October, the company stated.
The contactless-payment system enables consumers to complete small-ticket purchases in a few seconds by tapping the card on the terminal, with no signature or PIN required, Morpho stated.
Morpho will work with its local Hungarian partner, Pénzjegynyomda Zrt., to provide the cards to Hungarian financial institutions as demand increases, the company stated.
“We are delighted to be able to work with Cetelem Hungary, who has placed its trust in us to manage EMV-migration projects–first to contact chip cards and then to dual-interface cards,” Arnaud Jullien, Morpho vice president of payment products and service, stated in the release.
Cetelem Hungary’s leadership in innovation throughout its market will continue because of the partnership with Morpho, contends Gábor Meggyesi, the issuer’s commercial director.
“Our customers will be able to make purchases faster and more conveniently with PayPass than ever before with only one tap at the counter,” Meggyesi said in the release. “Morpho’s support has been key to reach this target.”
