Nordic payments processor Nets will provide the foundation for a new instant payments platform for banks in Slovenia through a commission from clearing company Bankart.
Bankart, a provider of financial services in Slovenia, says the move to real-time payments is designed to help banks sell new emerging new mobile and online services that keep pace with innovation in neighboring European economies.
“Our ambition is to lay a future-proof foundation for a whole new ecosystem that will ensure new innovative services can be deployed by our customer banks," Aleksander Kurtevski, managing director at Bankart, said in a Sept. 21 press release.

The arrangement also ensures the Slovenian community will have services which are "both competitive and cost effective and at the same time enables the best user experience both in day to day banking and commerce,” Kurtevski added.
Plans call for the new system to go live in September of 2018 and to be operated from Nets’ data centers in Norway.
The agreement marks an important milestone in Nets’ business expansion strategy as a platform deployed for both instant and nonurgent payments via a "single processing engine serving the full value chain for all types of account-to-account payments and other related financial information, including support for PSD2," Stig Korsgaard, chief sales officer at Nets, said in the release.
