A new credit card from Australian retailer Woolworths, the first from the company's Everyday Money division, will carry MasterCard Worldwide's contactless PayPass application, Woolworths announced this week as it prepared to launch the card. Consumers can use the contactless feature to make fuel purchases, Woolworths says. Card users also can collect Woolworths loyalty points. Woolworths, along with the Australian arm of United Kingdom-based bank HSBC, plans to begin issuing the card on 1 Sept., the retailer says in a statement. In that statement, Michael Luscombe, Woolworths CEO, indicated the cards also would carry EMV contact chips, enabling consumers to enter PINs at checkouts.
