PayPal buying Happy Returns to streamline product returns

PayPal has agreed to acquire Happy Returns, which offers a way for consumers to send items back to the merchant without having to use the mail.

The deal gives PayPal a way to control more of the shopping experience, expanding from product discovery and buying to post-payment activities.

Happy Returns has a network or more than 2,600 drop-off locations covering all 50 states and more than 1,200 cities. The Santa Monica, California, company partners with merchants and brands to use the retailer's fulfillment networks to support returns.

Happy Returns contends items purchased online have a higher return rate, and the lack of an obvious brick-and-mortar store forces consumers who don't want an item to use the mail for returns.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Happy Returns has raised more than $25 million, reports TechCrunch.
