Postmates, Adyen team up for payments processing

Postmates, which relied solely on Stripe Connect for accepting customer payments for its on-demand delivery service launched in 2011, is adding Adyen as another partner for payments processing.

The move comes as Postmates CEO Bastian Lehmann reiterates plans to take the company public amid rumors that suitors from Uber to DoorDash and Walmart are interested in buying the San Francisco-based home-delivery service.

Adyen will become one of Postmates’ payment providers in the U.S., where Postmates’ platform supports on-demand delivery from participating merchants in 3,500 cities, according to a Thursday press release.

“Payments is a critical step in delivering an on-demand experience and we aim to reduce friction at checkout,” said Udi Hoffmann, Postmates’ vice president of finance, in the release.

“Adyen works with a wide variety of platform businesses, and as a result, we have a unique understanding of how to help them to be successful,” said Kamran Zaki, Adyen North America’s president, in the release.

Last year Postmates announced an integration with Visa Direct to deliver instant payouts to Postmates delivery personnel through the network’s debit push-payment service. Postmates has more than 200,000 couriers.
