RBS WorldPay Inc. and Value Payment Systems LLC will begin processing consumer and business tax payments for the Internal Revenue Service on Jan. 1 under a multiyear contract announced today, according to Atlanta-based RBS WorldPay. Taxpayers in January will be able to make payments to the IRS using credit and debit cards and other payment methods through a Web site or by calling a telephone number. Taxpayers will pay a fee of 1.95% of the transaction total for credit card payments or a flat fee of $3.89 for debit payments, says Ian Drysdale, RBS WorldPay senior vice president of market development. Official Payments Corp. and Link2Gov Corp. also provide electronic-payment services for the IRS, according to the Department of the Treasury's Web site. Official Payments, a subsidiary of Reston, Va.-based Tier Technologies, charges a fee of 2.39% for tax payments, and Nashville, Tenn.-based Link2Gov charges a fee of 2.35%, according to the Department of the Treasury. "Government payment processing is a high-growth business," Ian Stuttard, RBS WorldPay president and CEO, said in a statement. RBS is working with Value Payment Systems, a Nashville, Tenn.-based provider of electronic payment products and services, in part because of the company's experience in managing government payments, says Drysdale.
