RePay International Ltd., which developed the Visa Greencard credit card that enables cardholders to offset carbon emissions of their purchases by supporting environmentally sound projects, has entered into a partnership for the Dutch market with Amsterdam-based credit card issuer PaySquare Ltd., which replaces former issuer Laser Cards, a subsidiary of Den Bosch, Netherlands-based LaSer Nederland Ltd. The Greencard makes credit card payments carbon-dioxide -neutral by automatically compensating for the CO2 emission associated with the purchase. The card uses Greencard's ClimaCount scheme, which automatically calculates the amount of carbon emissions released from products and services purchased with the card. "After the termination of the partnership agreement with our current issuer, we started looking for a partner that was best able to add to our new features. We have found this partner in PaySquare," Patrick Bunnik, CEO of Netherlands-based RePay International, said in a statement. "This means Visa Greencard holders can continue compensating for the CO2 emission associated with the products and services they purchase." Existing Greencard cardholders can continue using their cards until November but will receive new Greencards issued by PaySquare before then, RePay said in a statement. RePay notified customers via e-mail, the company said. New features for the card include enabling cardholders to compare their CO2 footprints with those of other Greencard holders and to use the Web to choose between forestry, sustainable energy, energy savings or the capture of greenhouse gases to compensate for their purchases, Bunnik tells CardLine Global. Customers also will get free, 180-day credit card purchase insurance and be permanently assured of secure online payments through the Verified by Visa Internet security system. Cardholders pay a 15-euro annual fee for the card.
