Revolution Money Inc. has begun a holiday promotion that can credit consumers up to $100 for paying with a RevolutionCard.

The St. Petersburg, Fla., company said last week that until Jan. 31 it will credit $5 to cardholders' accounts for each purchase of $50 or more made using a RevolutionCard.

Consumers can earn a maximum of 20 credits of $5 each during the promotion.

Revolution Money charges merchants that accept RevolutionCard 0.5% of each sale for processing, which it claims can save merchants up to 80% on transaction fees compared with bank card acceptance.

The company has started multiple programs to boost card use.

"We continue to create consumer programs with merchants that" encourage them "to use the card," said Duncan Evans, an executive vice president at Revolution Money and the general manager of the RevolutionCard Network. "We continue to make progress on cardholder growth."

The company intends to introduce additional programs next year, he said.

More than 300,000 retail sites accept the card, according to a company representative. Revolution Money does not disclose how many cardholders it has.

In October it announced that Murphy Oil USA Inc. would give consumers a three-cent discount per gallon of gasoline when they pay with a RevolutionCard.
