Samsung files U.K. patent for crypto wallet

Samsung is exploring the development of a smartphone-based cryptocurrency wallet, according to a recent patent application the electronics giant filed in the U.K.

The South Korean company described computer software to be used as a wallet for transferring cryptocurrency and payment using blockchain technology in a patent filed with the U.K. Intellectual Property Office Dec. 27, 2018.

The move follows Samsung’s filing earlier in the month of three blockchain-related trademarks with the E.U.’s patent office, according to a report by Cointelegraph.com.

As blockchain technology matures, more manufacturers are exploring use cases that could involve payments.

The Taiwanese electronics company HTC recently announced a blockchain phone with a feature that allows for secure storage of cryptocurrency wallet keys.
