The Australia Patent Office has granted United Kingdom-based Serverside Group a patent for the company's card-customization technology, the company said Monday. This is the fourth such patent for Serverside, whose financial-institution clients offer its technology so customers may put their own photos on credit cards. The company also has received patents in Europe, India and New Zealand. The Australia patent bodes well for Serverside to receive similar patents in other regions, the company contends. "The focus at Serverside has always been on innovation and new technologies," Adam Elgar, company president, said in a statement. "The decision by the Australia Patent Office is further justification of this strategy." Serverside claims its custom card capabilities help boost transactions for its financial-institution clients. In one case study, the custom cards generated an additional US$45 spend per card per year for one unnamed client, says Serverside.  Serverside's products are used in 1,000 card programs through its network of 200 card issuers in 23 countries, including U.S.-based Capital One Corp., UK-based RBS Group plc and Australia-based ANZ Banking Group Ltd., according to Serverside.
