SoftBank Telecom Corp. on July 5 began offering the first cloud technology-based transaction-clearing service in Japan, according to the Tokyo-based technology company.
Softbank Telecom, a subsidiary of the SoftBank Group, is targeting the nation’s online service providers, shopping sites and convenience stores with the service, dubbed “White Cloud Clearing Adapter.” With browser-based cloud technology, companies do not need to purchase and install different clearing systems for different payment methods.
Developed by SoftBank Payment Service Corp, another SoftBank Group subsidiary, the service also enables immediate transaction settlements, a key advantage for online businesses, SoftBank spokesperson Yuko Miki tells PaymentsSource.
The service is compatible with both Macintosh and Windows operating systems as well as with most payment methods, including credit cards, debit cards, PayPal and mobile payments.
Companies using the service pay SoftBank Telecom monthly fees that vary depending on which payment methods it supports, she says, noting SoftBank Telecom will not charge consumers directly but clients offering the service might charge consumers who use the service.
