Sony Redesigns PlayStation Credit Card, Promotes PayPal

Sony Corp., which launched its new PlayStation 4 video game console last month, is updating and promoting the payment options consumers can use with its new and older PlayStation systems.

Its PlayStation Card, a credit card issued by Capital One Financial Corp., now allows consumers to pick a new design based on characters from recent and upcoming games. The card offers rewards for spending, with extra points for spending at Sony Stores or for buying digital content for use on PlayStation consoles.

Sony also recently ended a promotion of eBay Inc.'s PayPal as a payment option. From Dec. 19 through Dec. 23, the company promised a $10 credit to anyone who used PayPal to fund $50 to a PlayStation account, which can be used to purchase downloadable games, movies and music.

Sony has supported PayPal as a funding method since January, but only from its website. In November, Sony enabled PayPal as a funding method directly from its PlayStation 3 console. Sony announced the updates to its card and the PayPal promotion last week.
