South Korean Credit Card Use Rises 27%

Consumers in South Korea during September made 469.8 million credit card transactions, up 26.7% from 370.8 million during the same month last year, according to the Credit Finance Association of Korea. Card spending during the month totaled 29.8 billion won (US$25.5 million), up 15.1% from 25.9 billion won. Credit card cash advances during the second quarter ended June 30 totaled 20.4 trillion won, down 6.8% from 21.9 trillion won during the same quarter last year, according to the association. As of the end of June, South Korea had 72,251 credit card holders.
