South Korean Overseas Card Spending Grows 22%

South Koreans using their credit cards outside the country spent nearly 2.7 trillion won (US$2.4 billion or 1.6 billion euros) in the first half of 2008, up more than 22% from about 2.2 trillion won for the same period last year, the country's Financial Supervisory Service reports. The agency says that South Korean credit cardholders took 177 billion won of cash advances while oversees in the first half of 2008, up 31.1% from 135 billion won during the same period last year. Card purchase amounts increased 22%, to about 2.52 trillion won from 2.06 trillion won.
