The Toayuan Metro transportation company in Taiwan plans to launch a payment system to allow passengers using contactless cards to travel from the capital city of Taipei to the Toayuan International Airport.
The tap-and-go service for those using Visa, Mastercard, Union Pay and JCB cards or mobile wallets with NFC will go into effect Jan. 16, 2020.
During two years of operation, Taoyuan Metro has also introduced Wi-Fi networks and a QR code system to streamline the fare payment process.
Taoyuan Metro president Pu Her-Chang said in a press release this week that the company would expand contactless fare acceptance through other parts of the Taiwan transportation network in the future.
"The smart service will greatly reduce the tedious ticket purchase process and reduce crowdedness," Her-Chang added. "It allows visitors to enjoy an easy journey."
