Fourteen banks in Taiwan have launched a mobile wallet using a shared technology platform developed by Mozido, marking one of the first rollouts of the Austin, Texas-based company’s global Host Card Emulation (HCE) solution.
The new mobile payments approach, called T-Wallet, leverages HCE and tokenization to support contactless payments in Taiwan via Android handsets, according to an Aug. 4 announcement from Taipei-based Taiwan Mobile Payment Co., a bank-led coalition supporting the effort.
TWMP said it's supplying participating banks with a software development kit enabling them to integrate the platform into their mobile payment apps.
More than a year ago, 27 Taiwan banks formed TWMP to collaborate on mobile payments technology and additional banks in the coalition will eventually add support for T-Wallet, the organization said.
