SumUp, a London-based company that allows merchants to accept card payments on their smartphones, will enable iPad acceptance through a partnership with Revel Systems.
Based in San Francisco, Revel Systems provides iPad point of sale systems to more than 1,000 chain stores in the U.S., Canada, Australia and Saudi Arabia. Its deal with SumUp will allow it to expand in Europe.
Revel provides a till that enables reporting, centralized management for multiple users and scalability for mobile acceptance via tablets. Revel Systems' users will receive SumUp's card reader along with their tills, which will come pre-loaded with SumUp's card acceptance app. SumUp also recently launched an application programming interface, which allows businesses and developers to incorporate payment processing into their own mobile or Web applications. Revel Systems' iPad point of sale terminals will be equipped to process debit and credit payments using the SumUp API.

Square has not announced plans for a European expansion, and has also disclosed plans for supporting chip-and-PIN cards in the U.S. and Canada.
