Visa and Pizza Hut are banking on pizza ordering and payment in the future to take place inside of automobiles.
In doing so, Visa brings a new meaning to "mobile payments" through a partnership with Pizza Hut and Accenture to test mobile and online purchases through "connected car" technology.
A connected car would feature
Accenture is integrating the technologies for the proof-of-concept car, Visa said in a March 2 press release.
Visa is demonstrating the connected car commerce at Mobile World Congress this week in Barcelona, Spain.
By 2020 it is estimated that more than 250 million vehicles worldwide will include some form of embedded connectivity, Bill Gajda, senior vice president of Innovation and Strategic Partnerships for Visa Inc., said in the release.
As the number of connected cars on the road increases, so does our ability to bring secure online commerce to consumers everywhere," Gajda said.
Visa initially focused the connected car concept for the specific use of "ordering a meal on your way home," Gajda added. "But we envision a world where consumers can seamlessly make many of their everyday purchases from the car.
Pizza Hut already accepts Visa Checkout payments for online orders, making the company a good partner for the car concept, Visa said.
