Vocalink promotes U.K. chief Gregor Dobbie to CEO

Gregor Dobbie is taking on the role of CEO of Vocalink as the company looks to expand its B2B payments business in the U.K.

Dobbie has been Vocalink's U.K. managing director since 2017. In his new role, he will also join the management committee of Mastercard's New Payments Platforms business unit. Mastercard acquired Vocalink in 2016 for about $920 million, and the unit has become a key part of the card brand's faster payments strategy.

Vocalink was among a handful of deals Mastercard made over the past three years to build an international faster payments network.

Dobbie will be responsible for operating the national infrastructures that Vocalink has developed to support the U.K.'s real-time and debit batch payments and direct debit bill payment, and about 70,000 ATMs in the U.K.

He will also help drive product strategy for consumers, businesses and government, as well as data-driven security risk prevention.

On the NPP management committee, Dobbie will report to Paul Stoddart, the president of NPP. Stoddart had been CEO of Vocalink before being named to the top spot on NPP in March.
