Western Union Co. has launched an online system that enables consumers to send Visa-branded gift cards packaged with personalized greeting cards through the mail. Consumers can personalize the Western Union Gift and Greeting Card with a message of up to 160 characters. Consumers can choose from 50 different greeting card designs dedicated to such occasions as birthdays, holidays and weddings. Card values range from $5 and $100, according to Western Union's Web site. Buyers of the card pay a $5 fee. Western Union charges a $2.50 monthly service fee to the card account after 12 consecutive months of nonuse. Consumers can send the card overnight using FedEx Corp. services. Second-day and first-class shipping options are also available. Western Union did not provide immediate comment to CardLine.
