WEX adds Visa to virtual payments offering

WEX will support Visa’s virtual credit cards for corporate payments, expanding the international digital payment options for WEX’s B2B customers.

The move enables WEX’s clients in sectors including travel, health care media and insurance to switch more payments from checks to cards, improving speed and accuracy, WEX said in a press release this week. WEX has offered its B2B customers virtual card processing via Mastercard for several years, a WEX spokesperson said.

“A core component of our strategy is to be the only technology partner that provides choice to customers to generate virtual credit cards on various networks—allowing payers and payees to choose their payment mode,” said Jay Dearborn, WEX’s corporate payment president, in the release.

WEX, based in South Portland, Maine, supports more than $30 billion annually in corporate payment spending, the company noted in the release.
