Wex, Alegeus Build a Virtual Card for Healthcare Claims

Wex Inc. and Alegeus Technologies are offering an electronic settlement method for healthcare claim payments that’s designed to be an alternative to automated clearing house (ACH) transactions.

Wex, formerly Wright Express, sells corporate payment technology, while Alegeus handles healthcare and other benefit payments. The two companies will offer a virtual card, which will allow providers to receive payments automatically.

The service is designed to reduce check payments, as well as remove processing steps required by ACH payment. The virtual card payments do not require added information beyond registration, or consent from providers to implement if they are a MasterCard accepting merchant, the companies said in a release.

The combined payments option can be managed from a tablet or smartphone browser.

Wex has been expanding its virtual payments technology by adding partners. One such partnership, with Globalia, uses virtual cards for travel booking.
