WEX Launches Mobile App for Gas Pricing

WEX Inc. has launched a new mobile application that searches for the most cost-effective gas station based on their location rather than just showing the price of gas.

Through the app, a motorist can determine how much fuel they need to spend to get to each nearby gas station. Cardholders can filter search results by product type and available services, see the results on a map, and get directions to their desired merchant.

"The new app allows WEX Fleet One fuel cardholders to determine the best places to buy fuel, not just based on where you are, but where you are heading with trip routing functionality," said Bill Cooper, vice president of customer acquisition for WEX, in a Dec. 16 news release.

WEX discussed plans for its next-generation app at SourceMedia's 2014 Card Forum and Expo.

Earlier this year, the corporate payment provider based in South Portland, Maine extended its contract to provide private-label and feel card services for Phillips 66. WEX also closed its purchase of Evolution1 in July, bringing the fleet card provider into the health care market.
