Wirecard has partnered with Garmin to enable payment acceptance at contactless-enabled payment terminals across Europe through boon, Wirecard’s mobile payment platform.
Users in the U.K., France, Italy, Ireland, Spain and Switzerland will be able to add their digital boon cards to Garmin Pay in coming weeks using newer Garmin smartwatches at payment terminals with Near Field Communication, Wirecard said in a Wednesday press release.
The integration leverages tokenization for security and users are required to set a four-digit PIN code during setup, the release noted.
“Our customers can now use their digital boon cards while they are out and about being physically active through their favorite smart devices,” said Georg von Waldenfels, Wirecard’s executive vice president of consumer solutions, in the release.
