Consumers may use Pay by Bank to fund online or in-app purchases directly from their bank account, with tokenized transactions occurring in real time and verified by the bank, Wirecard said in a Thursday press release.
Boon, Wirecard’s mobile payment app, will be the first digital wallet to use Pay by Bank. Users may load funds straight from their Pingit banking app, with Wirecard operating as both an issuer and an acquirer in its role with Pay by Bank, according to the release.
Pay by Bank’s streamlined approach eliminates the need for consumers to input a separate PIN, password or card number, with no exposure of the bank account number, Wirecard said in the release.
“The Pay by Bank app is set to shape the future of online and mobile shopping, as more banks and merchants offer this as a payment option to shoppers, and as more U.K. banks make Pay by Bank available to millions of customers,” said Jon Wood, chief commercial officer of Pay by Bank at Mastercard.
HSBC, Barclays, Bank of Scotland, Lloyds Bank and Starling Bank all recently announced plans to support Pay by Bank.
