Yespay International Ltd. has added advanced encryption to its global card-payment service, the London-based company announced this week.
The service, known in the industry as point-to-point encryption, aids merchants operating retail point-of-sale terminals or retail kiosks connected via the Web to Yespay’s cloud-based Emboss payment gateway, Yespay stated in a March 27 press release.
Yespay encrypts cardholder data when it enters the PIN pad or payment terminal, keeping the data secure as the information moves remotely to the payment gateway before moving on to a processor for decryption, the company stated.
Yespay has implemented the advanced encryption service for Fujifilm Holdings Corp. at Fujifilm self-service kiosks. The service has helped Fujifilm overcome past problems in keeping the kiosk computers secure from viruses and payment-processing limitations, Yespay stated.
Merchants accepting offline payments also can use the encryption service, Yespay added.
In what the company considers a safer choice, Yespay does not rely on software to perform the encryption process. Instead, the Emboss payment gateway uses multiple hardware-security modules in the process so there is no chance of a single-point failure, the company stated.
The advanced encryption helps merchants reduce their Payment Card Industry data-security standards testing and costs by keeping the data encrypted and off the merchant payment system, Yespay stated.
“Point-to-point encryption saves retailers from fraud and keeps cardholder data safe while also relieving merchants of the hassle of keeping their systems updated with the PCI council PCI-Data Security Standards requirements,” Yespay CEO Chandra Patni stated.
