ZipZap sends consumers who want to pay with cash and shop at a partner merchant a transaction code via a text message they can take to one of ZipZap’s 700,000 payment-center partners worldwide to complete the purchase. ZipZap also will send a code via the merchant website that they may print out instead.

With its Retail Payments Exchange platform, Softgate Systems provides such services as walk-in bill payment, domestic and international prepaid wireless, prepaid long distance, gift cards, international top-ups and international bill payments through its PayXchange service at its chain of independent agent locations.

Earlier this month, Miami Beach, Fla.-based SafetyPay began to offer ZipZap’s cash-payment service for consumers booking trips online (see story).
