Alternative payments provider ZipZap has added new Central and South America nations to its cash-to-Bitcoin network.
The San Francisco-based company will begin processing the digital currency for customers in Chile, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, Colombia and Argentina, where it will also open a new regional office.
The expansion is aimed at serving unbanked customers who have few payment options, the company says in a July 8 press release. Zipzap has been processing Bitcoin purchases in Brazil since last year.
"We are now able to offer millions of consumers in this region the ability to easily, safely and securely buy Bitcoins at affordable prices using cash and other payment options," says Simon Nahnybida, senior vice president for business development, in a June 8 news release.
Customers use the service by creating an online account and ordering a specified amount of Bitcoins. They can pay using cash, bank transfers or wire transfers. ZipZap then processes the order by selecting the exchange that offers the best price.
