ATM Cash-Out Scheme
Global Payments
Global Payments disclosed a breach of up to 1.5 million card accounts last year, as well as a separate breach of merchant data it collects as part of its underwriting process. The processor detected the breach on its own. "It is reassuring that our security processes detected an intrusion," Chairman and CEO Paul Garcia (pictured) said at the time.

FIS
In 2011, Fidelity National Information Services was struck by a data breach that cost it $13 million . Similar to the scheme disclosed by prosecutors May 9, the earlier FIS incident saw its perpetrators "drastically increase or eliminate the withdrawal limits" for just a handful of cloned cards, security expert Brian Krebs reported on his blog.
Heartland
Heartland Payment Systems disclosed a major security breach in 2009, after passing numerous audits that indicated it was compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard. "The audits that are used to determine compliance are very much overvalued, and we overvalued our audits ," Robert O. Carr (pictured), Heartland's chairman and CEO, said at the time.
