Changing of guard at Independent of Ariz.

PHOENIX -- Richard D. C. Whilden, chairman of Caliber Bank, has been elected chairman, president, and CEO of its parent. Independent Bancorp of Arizona.

He replaces Anthony M. Frank, the company's founder and a former postmaster general. Mr. Frank will leave the boards of the $1.8 billion-asset bank and the holding company but continue as a consultant.

Mr. Whilden was named Caliber Bank chairman in April with the acquisition of the bank. He previously held senior management positions with TRW Inc.

Lyle Knight, Caliber Bank's president, was elected to the additional post of chief executive.
