U.S. Central Credit Union of Lenexa, Kan., is using anti-phishing software from MarkMonitor Inc. of San Francisco.

The wholesale corporate credit union and its 26 member credit unions have been using MarkMonitor's technology for three months, the vendor said Monday.

Credit unions were the target of 32.6% of phishing attacks in the third quarter, MarkMonitor said. One gang, Rock Phish, which the vendor believes to be behind half all phishing attacks, began hitting U.S. Central in June, MarkMonitor said.

"Within the first few hours of that first attack, we knew we had to do something fast," Jean Golka, the information technology risk manager for U.S. Central, said in a MarkMonitor press release. "MarkMonitor … had the sites taken down quickly and put a plan in place to protect us against future attacks."
