Mobile financial services vendor Monitise Americas LLC announced Monday that 50 financial institutions have now signed up for its full-service offering and 100 more have signed up for its text-only service.

Monitise, of Providence, R.I., said its system works with more than 2,000 different types of handsets.

"A customer can sign up for text-message banking with their flip phone and then seamlessly upgrade to the full-service application without having to re-register," Soren Bested, the managing director of Monitise Americas, said in a press release.

Monitise Americas launched its service in October 2007, as a joint venture of Metavante Technologies Inc. of Milwaukee and Monitise PLC, a British specialist in mobile banking technology.

The financial institutions are accessing the system through their relationships with Fidelity National Information Services Inc. of Jacksonville, Fla., which bought Metavante this month, along with its NYCE electronic payments network.
