A Swedish taxi company is installing in its cabs 1,600 payment card terminals from Hypercom Corp.

The Scottsdale, Ariz., terminal maker said July 21 that Samport Payment Services AB, an authorized Hypercom distributor and service partner in the Nordic countries, is providing its M4100 mobile payment terminals to Taxi Stockholm AB. The company's cabs transport more than 40,000 riders a day.

During transactions, drivers hand the terminals to riders with the amount of the fare already entered. Customers enter a tip amount, and then use a card to authorize the transaction.

The terminals support the EMV Integrated Circuit Card Specifications and function in multiple languages.

Hypercom did not give a value for the contract.
