Jack Henry & Associates Inc. said its fiscal third-quarter net income surged 28%, to $31.6 million from a year earlier.

This lift was based on a 19% rise in revenue, to $215.5 million.

As a result, Jack Henry's net income for the first three fiscal quarters grew 17%, to $87.9 million, and revenue rose 10%, to $608.7 million, the company reported Tuesday.

"We are pleased to announce a solid performance in a market that continues to send mixed signals," Jack Prim, the Monett, Mo., company's chief executive, said in a press release. "With continued improvement in the general economy as the year progresses, we hope to see a slowdown in the number of bank failures and a more favorable environment for financial institution spending."
