Citizens Financial Names Wealth Management Chief

Citizens Financial Group in Providence, R.I., has hired John Bahnken as president of the wealth management unit of its bank.

The $137 billion-asset company recruited Bahnken from BNP Paribas' Bank of the West, where he was a senior executive vice president of the wealth management group. Bahnken will start work at Citizens Bank on Oct. 5 and he will report to Brad Conner, vice chairman and head of consumer banking.

Bahnken will succeed Mike Millard, who will retire after leading Citizens' wealth management business for 10 years.

Bahnken worked for the past four years "building [the] BNP Paribas North American wealth businesses," Citizens said in a news release. Bahnken has also previously worked for Bank of America, FleetBoston and Norstar Banks.
