49er FCU Merges Into Sierra Central CU

Yuba City, Calif. — Sierra Central Credit Union and 49er Federal Credit Union came together last week.

49er FCU, of Placerville, Calif., merged into $671 million Sierra Central on Jan. 2.

According to a joint press release from the two credit unions, the merger provides the nearly 4,000 members of 49er Federal Credit Union with a variety of expanded services, 16 additional branch locations, access to more than 30,000 ATMs and a variety of enhanced technology options.

The board of directors for 49er FCU said it believes the merger is a "tremendous fit" for the credit union, "as the community and members served align perfectly with the Sierra Central Credit Union culture and 16-branch network."

Sierra Central serves similar foothill communities from Redding to Placerville in northeastern California.

John Cassidy, CEO of Sierra Central CU, and local 49er Manager Matthew Smith said they believe the merging of the two institutions will provide the Placerville community with "another more robust financial institution." Combined, the merged credit unions would have assets totaling nearly $750 million.

Sierra Central Credit Union was established in 1955.
