Tomko, who formerly served as SVP-operations at Community First Credit Union, a $1.25-billion institution based in Jacksonville, Fla., started his banking career 29 years ago as a certified fraud examiner. The $430 million BrightStar also noted he has worked in operations, lending, and retail banking at organizations such as First Union, Colonial Bank, and First National Bank of Florida.

"We are very pleased that Michael Tomko has joined our team," said Dr. Dorothy Orr, BrightStar's board chairman, in a statement. "Tomko's personal philosophy of providing outstanding member service and always doing what is right for the members fits perfectly with BrightStar Credit Union's philosophy of 'people helping people.'"

Tomko said in a statement that he is "excited to join such a wonderful organization," adding that BrightStar has a "rich history of serving its members — and an impressive presence in the community."

Tomko, who graduated from King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Penn., has also served as vice-president of the Northeast Florida Chapter of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions.
