CHENEY, Wash. – Police are searching for thieves who broke into the Pence Student Union on the Eastern Washington University campus early last Wednesday morning and emptied an ATM owned by Spokane Teachers CU.
The door into the building was locked from the outside, so police believe the burglars came in through the ceiling then opened a door and brought in the cutting equipment, including a gas cutting torch to open the steel safe.
Police believe several people scouted the ATM drop patterns then hid in the building after hours.
Authorities believe it took the thieves a while to complete the job between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.
