The seven CUs that comprise Yakima County Credit Unions, Yakima, Wash., held a special event to assemble backpacks and school supplies for 5,000 area students.

AMOCO FCU, League City, Texas, has partnered with the Galveston County Sheriff's Department and BP Texas City for "Rachel's Challenge," a community-wide event dedicated to preventing bullying and violence.

For the 12th consecutive year, San Diego County CU was named San Diego's Best Credit Union by readers of the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper. Readers also selected SDCCU as the area's best financial planner, home loan provider and best place to work, all for the second consecutive year.

Global CU, Spokane, Wash., sponsored the first annual Gregory R. Kroetch memorial golf tournament.

Kinecta FCU, Manhattan Beach, Calif., was voted "Best Credit Union in the South Bay" by readers of the Daily Breeze newspaper as part of its 2011 "Best of the South Bay Reader's Poll."

Patriot FCU, Chambersburg, Penn., opened its first student branch inside the Chambersburg Area Senior High School.

Pinnacle FCU, Edison, N.J., and United Teletech FCU, Tinton Falls, N.J., provided multiple ways to help members cope with Hurricane Irene's devastation, including skip-a-pay programs, lower loan rates and waived or reimbursed fees.

Nix Financial,NuVision FCU and Kinecta FCU partnered with the group Parents of Watts to provide 200 back-to-school kits to elementary school students in Watts, Calif.

Arizona Central CU, Phoenix, is partnering with Deals That Matter to raise funds for the Phoenix Children's Hospital and the Children's Miracle Network. CU members can receive daily deals from local businesses with 15% of the money going to support the hospital.

Sperry Associates FCU, Garden City Park, N.Y., has launched "Operation: Helping Heroes," a long-term project dedicated to providing support and awareness of the issues facing 9/11 first responders. As part of that effort, the CU has pledged $2,500 to the FealGood Foundation for 9/11 first responders.
