JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — Johnson City FCU here has a new name, reflecting its expansion from serving members in just one county in Tennessee to seven counties throughout the Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia region.
NCUA last spring granted JCFCU permission to expand its market area, and membership is now open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Washington, Carter, Sullivan, Hawkins and Unicoi counties in Tennessee, and Scott and Washington counties in Virginia.
The $47 million CU is now known as Select Seven Credit Union, though it will still operate with a federal credit union charter.
"Strong leadership and strategic long-term planning have given us the ability to grow outside of Washington County," President and CEO Kevin Jones said in a statement. "this growth allows us to extend our member-first philosophy to potential members in the Tri-Cities community. We are committed to doing our part to help members meet their financial needs at a price they can afford."
In April the credit union will open a new branch in Kingsport, it's first office outside of Washington County in its 65-year history. It was founded in 1949 as Pet Dairy Employees FCU and rebranded as Johnson City FCU in 1992 as it expanded beyond serving just employees of the Pet Dairy.
