Hudson Valley Credit Union in New York hires banker as next CEO

Hudson Valley Credit Union in Poughkeepsie, New York, has recruited a banking executive to become its next president and chief executive.

Jonathan W. Roberts, incoming president and chief executive of Hudson Valley Credit Union.

The $6.4 billion-asset credit union announced that Jonathan W. Roberts, who according to his LinkedIn profile was head of community banking, president of the mortgage company and a member of the executive committee for the $65 billion-asset Webster Bank in Waterbury, Connecticut, will take on the roles of president and CEO for HVCU on Sept. 19. Roberts succeeds Mary Madden, who announced her plans to retire earlier this year and has been at the credit union's helm since her appointment in 2002.

"After extensive conversations with Jonathan, I am confident the transition will be smooth and seamless. … His financial acumen, strategic vision and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and community are the perfect mix to help our credit union achieve even greater success," Nancy Kappler-Foster, chair of HVCU's board, said in a press release Tuesday.

Outside of his leadership roles with Webster, Roberts worked as chairman of the board for the Urban League of Greater Hartford.
