WAYNESBORO, Va. – DuPont Community CU said Dr. Robert L. Tichenor, the last surviving founder and longtime director of the credit union, passed away at 93.

Tichenor was the first person appointed Director Emeritus in 2006 after 47 years of service to the $765-million credit union.
In 1959, Tichenor was instrumental in organizing Waynesboro DuPont Employees CU, which was later to become DuPont Community CU, and was chosen as its first president.
Tichenor served in many roles at the credit union, including as member of the supervisory committee for three years, 1960-1962; on the board of directors for 27 years, 1959, 1965-1970 and 1986-2006; and director emeritus for five years, 2006-2011.
