MBL names new chief executive

Member Business Lending, a credit union service organization based in Draper, Utah, has selected Shane Knighton as its next CEO.

Knighton, who has more than 17 years of commercial lending experience, replaces interim CEO, Gordon Dames, who is retiring, the CUSO said Tuesday. MBL said it conducted a nationwide search for its new top executive, but it ended up selecting a familiar face.

Knighton worked at MBL from 2005 to 2014. His first job was as an underwriter, and he subsequently held a variety of positions, including chief accounting officer and chief operating officer.

In 2014, Knight left MBL for Western Federal Credit Union, which is now known as Unify Financial Credit Union, in Torrance, Calif. He served as vice president of business services.

In May 2015, Knighton joined Kinecta Federal Credit Union in Manhattan Beach, Calif. There he first served as vice president of business services and operations before being selected as FVP of business services.

“Shane brings a unique set of talents, which pairs marketing and business lending experience. He has seen the process from both sides, and we believe that, along with his managerial skills, will help drive MBL into the future,” Joseph Schroeder, chairman of MBL’s board and CEO of Ventura County Credit Union in California, said in a statement.

MBL was founded in 2004 to provide business lending services to credit unions across the United States. Today, it provides services to 62 credit unions in 18 states.
