Mohawk Tribe Gets $64K To Start Credit Union

The Mohawk Tribe received $64,500 in federal funding from the Treasury Department's Community Development Financial Institutions Fund to help it develop its own credit union. The tribe, located in northern New York, is working with Alternatives FCU, in Ithaca, N.Y., to develop a charter proposal. The federal funds will be used to hire consultants to work with members of the Native American tribe.
