NCUA grants Gerber FCU community charter

Gerber Federal Credit Union, a $136 million institution based in Fremont, Mich., has received approval from the National Credit Union Association to expand its current field of membership to a community charter.

As a result, Gerber FCU can now offer credit union membership to individuals and businesses who live, work, worship, volunteer or attend school in Newaygo County, Mich., or the following parts of Muskegon County, Mich.: Cedar Creek Township; Moorland Township; Casnovia Township; Holton Township; or the following portions of Oceana County, Mich.: Newfield Township or Greenwood Township.

Gerber FCU currently operates two full-service branches in Fremont and one in Newaygo.

“This update will bring more opportunity to Newaygo County and the surrounding townships. It is Gerber FCU’s mission to serve the area through our exceptional products and services,” John Buckley, president and CEO of Gerber FCU, said in a statement. “Expanding our field of membership will allow us to offer more varied services to our existing membership, as well as the new membership.”

Gerber FCU generated net income of about $543,000 last year, after posting almost $832,000 in the prior year, according to call report data.
