Northwest FCU Introduces Its Own Children’s Book On Savings

HERNDON, Va. – Northwest FCU is bringing financial education to local elementary schools through an interactive school assembly featuring the credit union’s children’s book, Westie’s Triple Decker Decision.

The presentation features an interactive book reading with children’s author and Northwest employee, Joelle Hahn, as well as the credit union’s mascot, Westie the dog. The school event introduces the students to the saving, spending and sharing financial concepts that are the basis for the book. Each child is also given a copy of the book to take home.

Following the assembly, students are given the opportunity to enter a story writing contest and create their own story about saving, spending and sharing money using ideas learned in the Westie in the Schools seminar.

The credit union’s non-profit Foundation has already reached more than 1,000 kindergarten through 3rd graders at Dranesville Elementary School and St. Joseph's Elementary School in Herndon, as well as Louise Archer Elementary School in Vienna.
