CHANDLER, Ariz. – A man who allegedly robbed a branch of San Tan CU Monday morning was captured a short while later when police stopped the getaway car and found him hiding on top of the stolen loot.
The suspect entered the credit union around 10:40 a.m. and presented a note to the teller demanding money. Once the teller emptied her drawer, the robber ran out of the branch.
An alert citizen saw the suspect running from the credit union and provided a description and other information that Chandler police passed on to other area police agencies. A Tempe police officer working traffic enforcement stopped the vehicle, which was driven by a woman with her 2-year-old child seated next to her, for speeding.
Officers determined the woman was driving the suspect vehicle from the credit union robbery, but there was no sign of the suspect. The officer checked the trunk and discovered the suspect lying on the stolen money.
